Human

Human

Hey guys and welcome back to The Faith Filled Friends. We are so glad to have you join us today. It’s taken a long time but I finally feel like it’s time to write this devotion. Ever since I first heard “Human” by Colton Dixon, I knew that I had to talk about it, but I could never really get to it. But here we are. Let’s dive into it!

Human- Colton Dixon

Romans‬ ‭5:12‬
“Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—”

‘…I am just a man, a man set apart
For a purpose greater, something way beyond myself
No, I am not the hero, I’m hardly a spark
But this is my confession, now the danger of myself…’

I am sure you have heard the term, “I am only human,” or “They are just human.” Have you ever thought about what that means? Being human means to be broken, to make mistakes.

Isaiah‬ ‭64:6
“All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.”

Romans‬ ‭3:23‬
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”

We are all broken. There is not one person who is perfect on this Earth. No actor, no musician, no loved one and no pastor. I am a broken man.

I often try to look perfect or like I have it all worked out, but honestly, I really don’t. I struggle with sin as much as the next guy. Sometimes I hear the questions, “Why are you writing these devotions? How could you run a connect group? You are broken. Though, of sinners I am the worst.

It’s true. I may not be perfect but I am on a journey just like every other person. Sometimes these devotion help me get through the pain and the questions, but just because I am struggling, doesn’t mean that others aren’t. If what I say helps one person, then that’s all that matters.

We don’t have to be perfect! We so often try to become perfect but we can’t and we aren’t supposed to be. Jesus came, fully God and fully man, to live the life that you and I never could.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:1-2
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”

‘…So I lift up this broken weary human side of me
I bruise, I bleed
I need a remedy
But in my weakness proves how great You are
The hurt, the scars
Remind us who we are
That our stories point the world to who You are…’

God uses broken things. I know that the flaws, imperfections and struggles of others often helps me realise how much I need God. We are broken, but that is where the light shines through. Every wound and every scar tells of the amazing, extraordinary, never ending, overwhelming grace of God.

So let the light shine out from your cracks.

‘…No, I am not the hero
I’m human after all
But this is my surrender
My story and my song…’

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:13-14
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

It’s not about what you have done or who you were because Christ has destroyed that. We need to keep moving forward sharing the stories of how God has changed our lives and conquered or sins.

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:8
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.”

We may be human, but we are now children of God!

Let your light shine.

God Bless

  1. We are human and that means we aren’t perfect! It’s only because of the cross that we are made right with God.

Because we are human, we have limits, but we have a God who is limitless.

Praise God for His amazing grace!
