Hey there friends! This is another lunchtime devotion. I hope all is going really well! It’s great to be back again after a week away up north! I’m looking forward to today’s devotion, hopefully just as much as you are. ‘Open The Eyes Of My Heart’ is a lovely worship song. We were singing it on Sunday night at church and it brought tears to my eyes. So in thinking about what song I could do for today, this one came to mind and I’m glad that it did. There are a few different versions of this song out there, but I have used the Michael W Smith’s version as I really enjoy his music. I pray God will allow our eyes to be opened as we delve into today’s devotion!
It can be easy for our view of God to become blury or distorted. There are so many things in life that can distract us from seeking God and push us towards pursuing things for ourselves. Our heart can almost become overwhelmed with routines, worries and life in general. As christians, our hearts should be fixed on Jesus, devoted to Him because of His love and grace towards us. This song is almost a prayer, that the eyes of our hearts can be opened, so that we can see Jesus as He truly is. As our Lord and Saviour. Those who do not know God, can be said to have their hearts “hardened” against him. But when we come to trust in Jesus as our personal Lord and Saviour, our hearts are opened to Him, His holy spirit comes to live in our hearts and that is what changes us and makes us new creations. When we allow christ into our hearts, we begin to become more like Him. “Open the eyes of my heart, Lord, open the eyes of my heart, I want to see You, I want to see You…” These opening lyrics are so much like a prayer, asking God to help us to see him. We should have a desire as God’s people, to always see Him as our God and to seek Him first in all situations.
Ephesians 1:18- I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.
“To see You high and lifted up, shinin’ in the light of Your glory, pour out Your power and love, as we sing holy, holy, holy…”
When we allow God to open our hearts, we can come to see God in His true self, as the one true God, who created everything. He deserves all our praise and adoration! When we sing praises to Him, we lift Him up and exalt Him. But that shouldn’t just be when we are singing in church! We should want to see God high and lifted up every day! He has given His one and only son, Jesus for our sake. We can never praise Him enough! We can experience God’s power and love in our lives each day, if our hearts are receptive to Him. God is in control of everything, He has the power to do anything! To know that God, who holds it all is in our hearts is an amazing truth. God’s love for us, shown through the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, is what we should always come back to as proof of God’s love. It doesn’t stop there. God continues to love us each and every day. He guides us in His ways and works for the good of those who love Him, as it says in Romans 8:28.
Psalm 104:1- Praise the Lord, my soul. Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty.
May this beautiful song be our prayer today, that God will open the eyes of our heart, allowing us to see Him as our Lord and Saviour, who rescued us from our sin and who now reigns in heaven in all His power, glory and majesty. It can be so easy for our focus to be diverted away from Jesus because of the craziness of this life. But it is so important to remember to take time of our day to spend with Jesus. Whether that means spending a few moments in prayer, reading a few verses from your bible or reading the Faith Filled Friends devotion. God lives inside of us through His Holy Spirit, so may our hearts be open to Him, to receive His love and grace.
Father, I pray today you will soften our hearts to receive you, to allow us to see you as Lord and Saviour. Thank you for rescuing us from our sin, for giving us freedom. I ask that you will keep our hearts open to you always, so that we will grow more in our walk with you each day. May we seek you first Lord. In Jesus name I pray.
God Bless friends,
