Scripture Saturday: The Way

The Way, The Light

John 14:6
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Let’s jump straight into it today. I have really felt this verse on my heart lately. Last night at youth, during prayer, I really got a picture from God. It is an analogy (He seems to talk to me through analogies) so I hope you all enjoy visual learning.

God showed me a ship at sea. It was lost and had no direction. The people on the ship were losing hope as they had no idea where they were heading. The captain then saw a beacon of light… A lighthouse. They had direction, purpose and hope.

With your eyes on the light you find hope and you find life. Jesus is our lighthouse. His love is never changing and His grace is unwavering. No matter what we face we can find hope and life in Jesus. But that wasn’t where it ended.

As the ship headed towards the lighthouse, they encountered more and more rocks. The closer you get towards the light the more rocks you face. But knowing what that lighthouse meant was worth the risk. It was life! It was the only way they could survive and so they pressed on.

Our walk of faith won’t be easy as the more on fire we get, the more the enemy tries to drag us down. A lot of people give up chasing the light because, ‘It’s too hard. How can we be sure it is life?’ This is a picture of our faith. We see people giving up the chase and it hurts because we can see the light. Jesus is the way to life. He is our beacon of hope.

We will see people walk away but we need to remember what Jesus has said. ‘“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”‘ Never give up chasing the light. In the troubles remember that He says, “I am for you, who can be against you?” When we face times where this walk of faith feels dry and barren, remember that He says, “Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” If you fear what’s on the shore remember, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” And when you feel like you are drifting in the waves of the world, just remember, “Acknowledged Him and He will make your path straight.” If we trust the light we can’t go wrong!

Jesus is the way and if you feel like you are drifting from His beacon of light; pray, be alert, read His word because these are tools and weapons that He has given us. These are what we use, they are our maps and compasses. I would love to share two songs with you today as well. I pray that they will help us focus on the light of Christ and let Him fan the fire in our lives.
