Sunday Sessions

Eyes Fixed- Phil Wickham

When our eyes are fixed on Jesus, anything is possible!

‘…Through fire or flood
Through wind and the waves
I follow Your voice through the darkest of days
Whatever may come
You carry me through
Oh You are the One I choose…’

This is one of my favourite songs off Phil Wickham’s newest album, “Living Hope”. It is a declaration that we will always fix our eyes on Jesus. That He alone is our focus, He alone is where we find our strength.

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭121:1-2
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

When you lift your eyes, where do you look? I always want to have my eyes fix on the one who holds my life in His tender and scarred hands. He alone is my strength. I know that He is the only one who can carry me through is all.

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭14:22-33
“Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
“Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.””

When our eyes are fixed on Jesus we are able to walk on the waves. Mountains move and the walls fall. That is the power of Jesus.

Even when we fall Jesus is always there to take us by the hand and restore us. When we cry on the name of Jesus, we will be saved.

Psalm‬ ‭27:7-8
“Hear my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek.”

I will fix my eyes on the Lord!

‘…Whom shall I fear for You are with me
Whom shall I fear; You are by my side
You are for me; who can stand against me
God, on You I fix my eyes
Whom shall I fear for You are with me
Whom shall I fear; You are by my side
You are for me; who can stand against me
God, I fix my eyes…’

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭27:1-5
“The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?
When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.
One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.”

Who shall we fear? What can separate us from God’s love? There is nothing! Nothing on Earth or in heaven. No one can stand against us when the Lord is for us. That is why we need to fix our eyes on Him and Him alone.

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭118:6-8
“The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I look in triumph on my enemies. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans.”

As a team we want to encourage all of you, no matter what you are facing, to fix your eyes on Jesus.

It is a hard time of the year with last assignments, exams, practicums and all sorts. But we want to remind you that through it all, Jesus always wins. So look to Him, He won’t let you down.

‘…Eyes fixed on you
Eyes fixed on you…’

God Bless

  1. Nothing could ever separate us from the great and boundless love of Jesus!

    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:37-39
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

And as Phil Wickham sings, no one can stand against us when Jesus is on our side.

    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:31
“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”

    God Bless you!
