A Child- Like Faith

Hey everyone, thanks for joining us tonight for another devotion. We will be talking about having a ‘child like faith’ tonight and why that is so important. We’ll also be looking at the great song ‘Only Children’ by Newsong.

This week, I have been helping out at my church’s kid’s school holiday program. During today’s program, I noticed a lot about the way children trust and depend on those who are older than them.

As their leaders, they follow our requests and instructions, they ask for help when they need it and look to us to guide them during the day’s activities.

Especially for the younger children, they aren’t able to do some things on their own so they need a leader’s help. Generally, children trust those who are put in charge of them, because they need someone to help, guide, mentor and advise them. Whether that is us as leaders, their parents or teachers.

When it comes to our faith, do we trust our God like a child trusts those who are put in charge of them? As adults, we often struggle with this ‘child-like faith’. We find it challenging to submit wholeheartedly to God, because we think we know better. We like to think we’re in control.

If a parent tells a child not to do something, the child may not know why that is, but their parent knows does, because they have more experience and wisdom. They know more than a young child does about potential dangers.

It’s the same with God. He knows so much better than we do. He knows what is best for us and He holds our future in His hands.

Why do we struggle to trust Him with a wholehearted, child-like faith?

But only children come
Only children reach
Only children trust
What their eyes can’t see
Only children come

Matthew 18:3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

All of us, despite our age must have a child-like faith. We have to trust Jesus completely, we must be able to rely on Him for everything. We must acknowledge that He knows what is best for us because He is God.

May we have a faith like a child, that is prepared to trust God no matter what. Children trust their parents and those who have authority over them because they can’t look after themselves. Babies and young children are helpless without their parents.

We are also like these young children because we are helpless without God. Our God sent His one and only Son to die on the cross for us. He took our place because He loves us more than we will ever be able to comprehend.

When you see children, look at the way they trust and rely on their parents. Is that how you trust God, with total dependence on Him and what He has done?

If we are still trusting ourselves, it won’t do. We can’t save ourselves. If we have decided to place our trust in Jesus, we must give Him all we are, we can’t give Him bits and pieces. He paid the price for our lives on the cross.

Come to Jesus and trust Him like a child trusts, wholeheartedly. Ask God to give you faith when it is lacking. When we put our faith in Jesus, He will never fail us. He gave His life for us.

Come to God and trust Him. Rely on Him for everything, whether big or small.

I don’t wanna look past You
I don’t wannna lose my love over time
They say that this is just part of life, I don’t believe it
Give me the faith of a child

Don’t let your hope in Jesus dwindle, keep trusting Him with all your heart, mind, soul and strength until the end.

God Bless,

The Faith Faith Filled Friends
