Hey everyone and welcome back to the Faith Filled Friends for another devotion. Tonight, we are going to look at the Rend Collective’s ‘Christ Lives in Me’. This song reminds us of Gospel and what that means for us. It is because of what Jesus has done, that we have been crucified with Christ and He now lives in us.
I cast my life like ashes on the waves
And leave behind all of my selfish ways
My past is gone, now all that’s left is grace
To live is Christ, to die is gain
The cross has given us a new beginning. When we put our trust in Jesus, He makes us new and our old way of life is no more. All of our sin, regrets and shame are put behind us and the Holy Spirit helps us to live a new, changed life.
Our old self has been nailed to the cross and crucified with Jesus. Our sin has been dealt with once and for all. Because of that, we no longer live, but it is Christ who lives in us.
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me
Romans 6:6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—
We have died to sin because Jesus paid the price for it all. He took our place because of His incredible love and made us alive. We were destined to die, because that’s what our sin and rebellion deserves. BUT God had other plans and gave us forgiveness and life instead of our the punishment we rightfully had coming our way. Now that’s grace!
Romans 6:11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord
If our old self has been crucified with Christ, how should we live? It makes no sense to live in our sin if we have died to it right? Right, but the truth is, nobody is perfect and we will continue to struggle with sin. The difference is, we shouldn’t just say ‘oh it’s too hard to resist sin and temptation” and give up. No! Sin will be a struggle we have to continually deal with the sin that we are faced with. We must remind ourselves that Jesus died for our sins. Why would we want to go back to something that God’s grace has saved us from?
Titus 2:11-12 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age
We have to trust that God will continue to help us put sin to death in our lives. It isn’t something we can do overnight, it is a challenge we face each day and only something we can overcome with God by our side. We need to learn to say no to sin and the desires of the flesh and yes to the God and the desires of the spirit, so that we might become more like Him in all we do.
I have been crucified with Christ
It is no longer I who lives
But Christ lives in me
I have a second chance in life
My future’s open wide
I know Christ lives in me
He lives in me!
Ephesians 4:22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness
Our sin and past have been put to death. Out of love, Jesus came to earth to pay for our sins, dying the death we should have died. He offered us forgiveness and a second chance at life when all we deserved was death and eternal condemnation. Jesus came close to us even when we were walking away from Him.
Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us
Our sin has been paid for in full and now we can live in freedom. Our old self has been crucified with Christ and now He lives inside of us through His Spirit. There is no turning back because we have been redeemed and given a second chance at life because of Jesus!
May we rejoice in what Jesus has done for us and live in the freedom He has purchased for us.
