Through All Of It

Haven’t Heard?

Hey guys and welcome back to The Faith Filled Friends. Today we will be diving straight into another devotion. Hopefully this devotion can encourage you if you are going through a hard time or a rough patch in life. God is always with us. Let’s dive into it!

Message Monday

Genesis 39:19-23
“When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger. Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.
But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.
So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.”

Allow me to set the scene.

Joseph was a young man, seventeen years old, when his brothers sold him into slavery. He was his fathers’ favourite son and that made his brothers jealous. Joseph also had dreams about how his family would bow down to him which caused his brothers to burn with hatred.

After being sold as a slave into Egypt Joseph prospered and was promoted by Potiphar, placing Joseph in charge of his house.

During this time, his master’s wife began to take notice for him. She tried to sleep with Joseph but he refused and ran away. She then told Potiphar that Joseph had tried to sleep with her, so Potiphar chucked Joseph into prison. And that’s where our passage began.

Joseph had never done anything really bad in his life, but he had been through a lot of bad himself.

He was sold as a slave and was thrown into jail for something he didn’t do, yet he still trusted in God.

Proverbs‬ ‭3:5-6‬
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

It would have been hard for Joseph to trust God when he was in jail. He had been sold as a slave and now he is being punished for a crime he did not commit. Where was God through all of this?

God never left Joseph. He was there in the beginning and in the end.

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭39:2-3
“The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did.”

Joseph had success because of God’s favour on his life. God was visible in Joseph for everyone to see. He was guiding Joseph and giving him strength.

But what about jail, the lowest place for Joseph? God wasn’t there, right?

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭39:21
“The Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favour in the eyes of the prison warden.”

God was there at the start and at the end, He never left his side. When life gets hard, we can remember that the same God who was with Joseph through all the pain, is with you.

It may seem like God is far away or He just isn’t there. Sometimes God just doesn’t talk to us. But that doesn’t mean He isn’t there.

God will never leave you, even when it seems hard, He carries you through all of it.

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭23:4
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

  1. God is always with us, no matter what we face. I love that quote; “The Teacher is always quiet during the test”. God is always with us during the trials, but He is refining us and making diamonds.

It doesn’t matter where we find ourselves, God is there and will work through the circumstances.

We need to trust Him with all our heart.
