Hey guys and welcome back to The Faith Filled Friends. We are so glad to have you join us today for another devotion. Today is Throwback Thursday which means we are going to look at the awesome Petra song, “Mine Field” and what it means. Let’s dive into it!
Mine Field- Petra
‘…Smell the burning powder?
There’s danger in the air
A voice from deep inside is telling you, ‘you must beware’
Then enemy is watching
Every step you take
To find his opportunity in every choice you make…’
“Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.”
We just finished our series about surrender and we are back with more surrender? What’s the deal?
This life is a minefield. There is danger at every turn and the path is so unclear. In this life we have no certainty and every step is panic. Imagine walking in a literal minefield. Life can seem like that at times, and that is why we need to put ourselves and our pride behind and follow Jesus.
‘…And it’s no game
When someone lives without His grace
And who’s to blame
When it blows up in their face…’
Living a life without God is a dangerous life that brings nothing but pain. Without Jesus you are wondering in a minefield and before you know it, it’s all over.
“You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.”
‘…It’s a mine field – you’d better follow Him through
God knows the way – you’d better stick like glue
It’s a mine field – better stay on His heels
’cause the enemy kills and the enemy steals
So keep your head down and keep you eyes peeled
’cause life is…
Life is a mine field…’
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
When life is a minefield, we need to trust. There is danger all around and only one path is safe. We are following Jesus through some scary terrain but we need to never doubt Him, sticking to His heels, stepping in His foot prints, because we know He is the only safe place. Jesus makes our path straight.
1 Peter 5:8-9
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.”
Life is a minefield so why should we not live with caution? We need to awake and alert because the enemy is waiting for us to take one step off the path.
We need to resist all temptation and stand in faith. In this day and age that is hard to do, but we need to do it. Jesus is the only way.
‘…Some may feel
They can wander out too far
They may heal
But they may always wear the scar…’
When life is a minefield, we can’t wander off the path without getting hurt. We must never forget that Jesus can heal any wound that we face. But just because Jesus can heal the wounds it doesn’t mean that we should just wander off. We are left with scars.
If you have wondered, Jesus has His arms wide open and is welcoming you home. Don’t walk of the path, Jesus is our safety and our refuge.
‘…Better leave the navigation to the One who knows the Way
He will bring illumination
He will light your path each day…’
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
God knows best. In this life there is so much that can kill us but Jesus will lead us. If we start each day with Jesus as our number one then we can trust Him when the challenges come. Allow Him to light your path.
Life is a minefield, but Jesus knows the way. Let’s trust our God again.
