Surrender//Control: Have Your Way

Hey guys and welcome back to The Faith Filled Friends. We are so glad to have you join us today for another devotion. Today we are continuing with our mini series “Surrender//Control” and we are going to talk about what it looks like to give God control. Let’s dive into it!

Surrender//Control

Have Your Way- Britt Nicole

Mark‬ ‭14:35-36
“Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.””‬

Jesus surrendered control, even when He was at the point of death.

I think Jesus is the greatest example of how we should live our lives. He lived a perfect life free from sin, which is impossible for us but that doesn’t mean we give up trying. He loved the unlovable and served the servants. Jesus didn’t look at age or past, He just loved. He also wanted God’s will to be done.

Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane and He knew the cross was in the near future. He was deeply troubled and described His sorrow as “to the point of death”. That sounds dramatic but that cross is the absolute pinnacle of pain. Yet Jesus prayed, “Yet not what I will, but what you will.” He surrender His life to God, even at that cost.

‘…Feels like I’ve been here forever
Why can’t you just intervene
Do you see the tears keep falling
And I’m falling apart at the seams
But you never said the road would be easy
But you said that you would never leave
And you never promised that this life wasn’t hard
But you promised you’d take care of me…’

Trusting God is not always easy but we need to have strong convictions about how we live. If we believe God then do we trust Him?

Would you give your will and your life to God if you knew death was the cost?

‭‭Mark‬ ‭14:39‬
“Once more he went away and prayed the same thing.”

Jesus continually prayed, and it was the same prayer. It is often hard to give God our sins without picking them back up. We hold on. But surrender is complete control.

‘…So I’ll stop searching for the answers
I’ll stop praying for an escape
And I’ll trust you God with where I am
And believe that you will have your way
Just have your way
Just have your way…’

Jesus is more than enough. He is the Alpha and the Omega, beginning and the end. He is the reason you and I are alive! Will you trust Him? Will your prayer be, “Just Have Your Way!“?

I have counted up the costs, and God is worth it. Even pain and ever hurt. All that I go through is worth what is in store for me. Plus, Jesus gave it all for me, how could I not do the same?

‘…Even if my dreams have died
And even if I don’t survive
I’ll still worship you with all my life
My life, yeah…’

Have your way in me, Lord.

God Bless

  1. This is such a beautiful song and an important reminder of surrender, something which is so important for us to do, yet so difficult. We struggle to let go of our plans and burdens. We must let God have His way. Just like you said, “if we believe God, then do we trust Him?

We might know He is God and trust that Jesus died for our sins, but do we still hold back things from God?

Jesus’ example of submission is amazing. He was petrified, facing certain death, yet He still wanted God’s way ahead of His own.

He knows us so much better than we know ourselves, we are fully known and loved.

I pray we will let God have His way in every part of our lives.
