Surrender//Control: God’s Not Done

Surrender//Control: God’s Not Done

Hey guys and welcome back to The Faith Filled Friends. Today I want to jump into a short mini series on surrender. We want to discuss what it is like to give God control. This devotion is very different and probably confronting but we need to trust in God’s plans. Let’s dive into it!

I wanted to give up The Faith Filled Friends. It was a lot of work. I was tired and I was worn. We had lost half the team and it seemed like things were coming to an end. During our birthday I was telling myself that these could be the last devotions I write. But in my heart I knew God wasn’t done.

I remember reading our “About” page and why we do this. God reminded me why I love The Faith Filled Friends. We have the opportunity to reach thousands of people from different countries and places.

I know for some people that might be upsetting to hear. Why would you want to listen to someone who wants to stop? We don’t always feel like doing what God wants but He has a way of reigniting a fire. I didn’t have an answer to convince people to continue to read, but God showed me the answer in Jonah.

Jonah didn’t want to go to Nineveh but God had the plans. In the end he arrives in Nineveh and tells the message that God put on his heart. All the people of Nineveh turned to God and repented of their old ways.

I believe the enemy tries to cloud our view of God’s plan. We so easily forget what, or should I say who, we are living for. At times we forget why God has put us in a certain job or at a certain school and that is why I believe we can’t make it our plan or our dream, we need to make it His. Give up on your plans and surrender them to Jesus. If it is in His will, He will continue to bless you and make you prosper.

The Faith Filled Friends is not mine, it’s not Josh’s its none of ours. It was a decision we made when The Faith Filled Friends turned one, to surrender it to God and see where He leads us. We are enjoying it so much more now that we don’t feel this pressure to achieve, because we know it’s in God’s hands.

So what do you need to surrender today?

Life can seem overwhelming and we try to take control but God calls us to let go. That is scary but so satisfying. When our trust is wholly in God it is the best place we can be.

When God asked me to remember why I was here it challenged me. We had started as a group of friends who loved God and wanted to share His incredibly good news. We gave Him the glory, but slowly I had taken control and when God asked me to give up The Faith Filled Friends during our birthday, I couldn’t say no.

Once God takes control, all things work out. God is the one in control of our past, present and future. I want to give Him more than just The Faith Filled Friends, I want to give Him my life.

So, in this series, “Surrender//Control” we just want to ask the question:

What do you need to surrender control of?

Surrender is the greatest form of worship, it is acknowledging that God knows best.

Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Do you trust God with your life? Do you trust Him with your finances? Do you trust Him with your marriage? Do you trust Him with your job? Do you trust Him with you whole heart? Give Him control.

Although it may feel like you have to let things go, just remember that God is not done with you. He can change you and use you for something amazing!

  1. This is a message that I have been so torn about writing. I wrote the bones of it just after our birthday celebration but I couldn’t bring myself to publish it.

But God has pressed it on my heart. Sometimes we don’t want to do something but God calls us to do it. Like I said in my “All In” post,
‘…We need to give our lives to God. Surrender. I have always said that if I could teach anyone anything I would love to tell them about surrender. It has taken me years to learn that my plans and my dreams are not always God’s…’

I believe God has called us to surrender. Life is going to get hard and our faith will be tested, so we need to place our trust where it really matters. We need to stand in the trial, but how can we do that if we don’t lean on God?

Surrender. Give God control. That is what this series is about.

    God Bless

  2. What a message. I panicked a bit when I read the beginning! The Faith Filled Friends has been such a blessing and opportunity and I pray it continues to be.

God’s way and not our way, its such a hard thing to put into practice. We belong to God, we are His creation and we have been saved by His grace. We are not our own. If we owe our whole lives to God in surrender, we must give Him our everything, not just the parts we want to.

I pray that we will continue to surrender to God in everything so that His plans will become our plans. If He is truly our God, we have to give all of ourselves and give Him control.

The amazing Casting Crowns song ‘For All You Are’ that is playing right now: “all of me I lay down for all you are”.

Taking our hands off our life and giving Him control.

    God Bless.
