Who Loved You First
Hey guys and welcome back to The Faith Filled Friends. Today, we are back with another devotion as we delve deeper into this relationship with God. I recently came across a great song by Newsong and I really felt like it was the right message for today. Let’s dive into it!
Who Loved You First- Newsong
‘…Woman, woman I’ve been there
Every day back to the same old world
You dig so deep but not deep enough
You break your back just to fill your cup
But it’s never enough…’
‘…Brother, brother have no fear
The Father welcomes back your guilty tears
Oh, you’ve wrapped yourself in your prodigal shame
Return to Him, He’s wiped them all away
And you’re free from blame…’
We all live life very differently. There are those of us who feel like we need to work hard and earn God’s grace and love. We feel like we need to earn this gift that Jesus purchased for us. There are also people who live life in the shame of their mistakes. The guilt and the lies flood their minds and they don’t think they are worth it. They don’t believe the sacrifice Jesus made was for them.
‘…Fill up your hands with healing water
Give up your past, be lost no longer now
Raise up your flag, lay your guard down, He’ll
Shatter the walls that have surrounded you
You know you never have to thirst
Surrender to the One
Who loved you first…’
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”
“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
2 Corinthians 5:21
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
When we surrender to God and lay down our struggles we find the peace and love that we all need. God will fill us with healing, restoring all the broken pieces inside and out. When we surrender, we find healing and we find Jesus. These verses remind us that there is no need for works, for grace bought our freedom- it is a gift! We also need to remember that Jesus was a sinless man who took on our sin. He took our place, we take His. There is now no need to be ashamed or guilty, Jesus has forgiven you.
The one who loved you first! I love songs that remind me that Jesus loved me first. Before I knew Him and even before time, He loved me. He loved us all! We have always been loved by Him and we always will be. That means there nothing you can do to earn it and nothing you can do to lose it. He loved you before you were made righteous, and that is the reason Jesus walked on this earth. Because He loved us.
‘…Before the world was made
Before time and space
He thought of everything
He loves us, He loves us
You’re out there on your own
The Father’s waiting for you, come back home…’
We are the prodigal son. Lost and trying to make things right. We need to acknowledge that we can’t do this alone and then return home. God is waiting for us to return to His arms. I can’t fathom how much He loves me personally. But He was always my first loved and He always loved me first!
2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
Stop holding on to the old you or the lies in your head. You are now a new creation because you are the image of Jesus now. Christ lives in you and you are blameless! Never forget, He has always loved you.
He was the one who loved you first!
