Living In The Psalms

Living In The Psalms

Psalm 95

Hey guys and welcome back to The Faith Filled Friends. The team here are so glad that you have joined us today for another devotion. We all know the importance of having this time with God and letting Him speak into our lives. Today, as we look at another Psalm, we just want to encourage all of you to praise our God once again. Let’s dive into it!

Scripture Saturday

Psalm 95
“Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.
For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.
Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.
Today, if only you would hear his voice, “Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah, as you did that day at Massah in the wilderness, where your ancestors tested me; they tried me, though they had seen what I did. For forty years I was angry with that generation; I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known my ways.’
So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’”

We have been exploring the Psalms and reading into a few of them. I really felt encouraged when I read Psalm 95 the other day. So often we worship our God and sing to Him, but we forget the second half of this Psalm.

I love worshipping my God and giving Him praise. But there are moments in our lives where we test God and fall. We just expect the help but we don’t see that the fall was because we were too busy looking at ourselves that we trip. So what is a trip?

O God Forgive Us- for King & Country

‘…Silence isn’t comfortable
We want drive through peace and instant hope
Our shallow faith it has left us broke…’

So often we want God to work around us. We want Him to fit into our box and our schedule. We want God to be our genie that gives us joy when we are sad, hope when it is hard, peace in the storm and make all our dreams come true.

I think it is so easy to forget that God is God! He formed the mountains with His words. In the vapour of His breath the planets formed. He made us so intricately and perfectly, yet He did it in one word. God holds the world in His hands and you expect Him to be your genie?

‘…Young and old, black and white
We’re rich and poor, there’s no divide
Hear the mighty, hear the powerless, singing
O, O God forgive us…’

Everyone does it. We test God and try to get “proof” of His love and very existence. It is so easy for us to have no respect for God. I pray before I sleep each night and sometimes I stay in my bed, sometimes I yawn and get lost in my own head and other times I have fallen asleep. God is God. Creator of the universe yet that is the respect I give Him?

We harder our hearts towards God. We are full of unbelief and doubt. Anger and lies. Lusts and pride. Jealousy to hatred. You name it, we’ve got it. The human race is a mess. My prayer is that we would see our mess and realise that we are a hopeless world that needs Jesus. We need to be forgiven or we will never find rest.

Psalm 95:11
“So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’”

‘…A slave to our uncertainty
Help us with our unbelief
O, O God forgive us…’

God please forgive us from all our sins and our disrespect. Help us to acknowledge your glory and power and worship you.
Amen

God Bless

  1. So true… we give God our praise and worship Him. It’s when we aren’t giving Him our full attention, we can forget who He really is… He is Lord of heaven and earth.

But God always forgives us when we fall short of Him, because of what He has done.

Something one of my youth leaders once said that I’ll never forget… “Don’t fit God around your life, fit your life around God”.

    Thanks for this message Gad.
