Find Time Waste Time
Hey guys and welcome back to The Faith Filled Friends. We are so glad that you decided to stop by and read one of our devotions. Today, we really want to focus on the time that we spend with God. We want to encourage all of you to be still and know that God is God. Let’s dive into it!
“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.””
What does your devotion time look like?
Today, we don’t want to make you feel bad but rather encouraged. This morning I was going to have my quiet time with God but I really wasn’t feeling it. I didn’t feel the excitement I did yesterday. I was not excited, I was tired and my shuffle was annoying me. I got to my “spot” and I sat down.
I didn’t prayer and I didn’t take out my bible. I just sat there and listened to the breeze and my music. The first song that played was, “Be Still” by Jeremy Camp. Isn’t God so good?
Be Still- Jeremy Camp
‘…Be still and know that You are my God
Be still and know that You are enough
Though my heart is racing still You’re in control
Be still and know that You are my God…’
‘…You are faithful
And Your love endures forever
Yes, Your love endures forever
You are able
In You I’ll stand forever
Yes, in You I’ll stand forever…’
“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.”
It is sometimes necessary to just stop and be still. To just not worry about reading the bible or trying to do the “normal Christian thing”. God wants to spend time with us, like a father longing for some time with his child. There doesn’t have to be achievements or even talking. Just the embrace is enough.
Then God reminded me of an amazing promise. Casting Crowns, “Thoughts On Jesus, Friend Of Sinners” began to play after Jeremy Camp was done. I was about to skip it, when I just felt God tell me that it was something I needed to hear.
Thoughts On Jesus, Friend Of Sinners- Casting Crowns
‘…We can come to Jesus like we are… Everything that Jesus ever said or did was totally against modern culture. But everything that Jesus ever said or did was totally for people…He cared what they did, He died for what they did…’
God loves me so much. Like what we spoke about the other day, we are fully known and loved by God. He knows all our sins and our secrets yet He calls us closer. When we feel dirty and unworthy to go to God, we need to remember that He died to bring us in. Don’t let the sin get in the way of your time with God.
Next on my shuffle was an instrumental by Parachute Band. It is really nice to just have soaking music. Like we said, there doesn’t always have to be words to connect us to God. Sometimes we need to linger in His presence and feel Him move.
*Linger*- Parachute Band
“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.”
I lay there on the hill in the tall grass and I felt peace. All the things trying to pull me away and get me down faded as I lingered in God’s presence.
I didn’t realise how hectic my mind was until I felt the peace of God fill me. We may not think that we need to spend time with God, we may think that our sin disqualify us or we might think that we aren’t feeling His love or peace and it will be a waste of time. Let me tell you something now. It is not a chore or something you have to do, but when you do it you will realise how much you needed it.
Don’t feel like you need to talk to God. Don’t feel like you have to read your bible. God just wants you. Somedays we just need to stop, be still and know that He is God.
“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.”
In Christ Alone- Owl City
‘…In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
this Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
when fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
here in the love of Christ I stand…’
My heart was not at peace when I arrived. My soul was restless and I was not prepared to give to God. I was really in need of what God has for me. As I gave Him time to move and I rested on Him I found peace and rest.
‘…No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath.
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand…’
These songs that I have shared with you today are all the songs that played during my quiet time. When we spend time with God, sometimes we need to let Him be our DJ. I believe that God is in control of the shuffle function on our phones! But seriously, we just need to make some time for God, play some music and rest in His embrace.
“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Do you have a secret place? A place where you can just rest and spend time with God without interruptions. A secret place for just you and God. Switch your notifications off and get carried away in His love. I believe that is so important to find time to spend with God.
Find the time. Waste the time. Don’t feel like you have to be efficient with your time. Just be still. He is the reason we have life, so there is nothing more important than spending time with Him.
Be still. He will renew you. It’s our response to all that He has give us. Don’t make it about achievement. You will find rest and peace in God’s presence. Find time. Waste time!
