Praying for Others

Hey everyone and welcome to another devotion. We have talked about prayer before in previous devotions and shared songs such as ‘Pray’ by Sanctus Real. Tonight I want to briefly talk about praying for others. Prayer itself is a privilege. It is an opportunity to talk to God, share our thoughts, desires, concerns, anxieties and commit every aspect of our lives to Him.

Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God

There are many different circumstances when we have the privilege of praying for others. It could be at a special moment in someone’s life such as a significant birthday, giving thanks to God for the blessing of life. It could be asking God to give comfort and peace to someone who is struggling with hardship. When we pray, we can praise God for others, but we can also pray and ask God to give strength and healing to those who need it.

We commit someone to God through prayer, whether it is giving praise and thanks to God for them or if it is asking God to help them in a time of need. When someone comes to us with a problem or shares some great news with us, often our first reaction isn’t to pray, but it should be. We should have a “pray first response”. Just like Colossians 4:2 says…

Colossians 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus

We should devote ourselves to prayer. Why shouldn’t it be our first response when something good happens or when trouble strikes for others? When we face things in life that are far beyond us, God is the only one with a resolution. When we pray, we submit our requests to God, giving everything to Him because He is God and He is able.

Ephesians 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people

Just as Ephesians 6:18 says, “always keep on praying for all of the Lord’s people”. We have the power of prayer, the ability to talk to God anywhere,  at anytime about anything. He is always listening. To be able to pray for people is an amazing privilege. Whether it be to praise God or asking Him for His help, know that He will listen and answer according to His will.

John 14:13-14 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it

To be prayed for is an encouragement and it is also just as encouraging to pray for someone, because it is in faith that we are giving our requests to God in, knowing He will answer perfectly because He knows best!

So I want to encourage you to pray for others, in the hills and in the valleys. May we devote ourselves to prayer because it is an amazing gift from God, that we can speak directly to Him.

I thank you Lord for the privilege that it is to pray. May we take the opportunity to pray for and with our brothers and sisters in Christ, whether it be in good or bad times. May we trust you fully with our prayers and requests, being confident that your will be done. In your name I pray, Amen.

God Bless,

Josh Clarke- The Faith Filled Friends
