Hey guys and welcome back to The Faith Filled Friends. Recently we have been looking into Jesus and what His death on the cross means for us. We have talked about the “Blood” of Jesus and we covered the topic of the “High Priest” yesterday. Today we continue, but only to sum up the events that took place on that day over 2000 years ago. We have the amazing song, “Jerusalem” by City Alight, which we will be using to explore the event. Let’s get into it.
Jerusalem- City Alight
‘…See Him in Jerusalem
Walking where the crowds are
Once these streets had sung to Him
Now they cry for murder…’
Jesus came to Earth, fully man, fully God. He came and lived a human life, a perfect life. Our God came down into the world He created, to be the sacrifice to save the people He had made.
‘…See the King who made the sun
And the moon and shining stars
Let the soldiers hold and nail Him down
So that He could save them…’
The creator of this world walked among us. The lamb of God knew that His life would be the ultimate sacrifice for the treason of all humans. He didn’t come to live a life to show us how to live, but to die the most brutal and shameful death. He picked up the cross and took on our sin.
“Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.
“And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If you worship me, it will all be yours.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’“
The devil tried to tempt Jesus into taking the crown without the cross. But Jesus was stronger than any sin and temptation.
‘…See Him there upon the cross
Now no longer breathing
Dust that formed the watching crowds
Takes the blood of Jesus…’
He lived and die. His life was short, 33 years. His ministry was even shorter only lasting 3 years. His life may have been short but somehow He is still changing people’s lives 2000 years later. Who knew that one man could change the world so dramatically by dying.
‘…Feel the earth is shaking now
See the veil is split in two
And He stood before the wrath of God
Shielding sinners with His blood…’
‘…See the empty tomb today Death could not contain Him Once the Servant of the world Now in vict’ry reigning…’
Jesus won. Death and sin lost the battle, our freedom and our lives had been purchased by the blood of Jesus. Anyone who believes in the power of Jesus and declares that He is our saviour and Lord will be saved from sin and death. Jesus purchased our freedom, but we have to receive it and believe it.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
‘…Lift your voices to the One Who is seated on the throne See Him in the New Jerusalem Praise the One who saved us…’
Thank you for joining us for this series. We pray that you enjoyed this and learnt something new. Jesus is the reason we have life. This is the gospel and the truth. Let’s praise God for all that He has done.
