Sunday Sessions: Forgiveness

Hey guys and welcome to the Sunday Sessions, a devotion by The Faith Filled Friends that includes more than one song to go with a theme… And it is on a Sunday. I hope that makes sense. So today we will be discussing, FORGIVENESS! So get ready, here we go.

Forgiveness- TobyMac (ft Lecrae)

So what is forgiveness? Why should I forgive? Forgiveness is the act of letting go, wiping the slate clean. When we forgive someone, it means we forget about their wrong doings and move on.

But the question is still there, why? Because Jesus forgives. That is the answer. If Jesus does something, then we should probably do it too. We know that Jesus had love like no other. Forgiveness comes from a place of love where you allow wrong to be let go. You forget about what happened and look at the person as a new man.

‘…’Cause we all make mistakes sometimes
And we all step across the line
But nothing’s sweeter than the day we find
We find…’

‘…Now you can go and play it like you’re all rock and roll
But guilt does a job on each and every man’s soul
And when your head hits the pillow at the nightfall
You can bet your life that its gonna be a fight ya’ll…’

We all make mistakes and we all stuff up. I fall short everyday. I can thank God everyday that He forgives me. But then I hold onto grudges and anger because someone else wronged me!? It doesn’t make sense. Unforgiveness holds us back from God and His grace. Lecrae sums it up beautifully!

‘…But those forgiven much , should be quicker to give it
And God forgave me for it all Jesus bled forgiveness
So when the stones fly and they aimed at you
Just say forgive ’em father they know not that they do…’

Jesus took the cross so He could forgive us. We find it hard to forgive someone and we don’t lose anything by forgiving that person. Jesus was willing to lose everything just to forgive us! It’s crazy.

I have been forgiven so much it is unbelievable. So why do I still struggle to forgive? Forgiveness is not easy because we have to lay out pride down, admit our faults and let go of someone else’s mistakes. But I don’t want to hold onto these things anymore. Jesus has set me free so it is time that I embrace the freedom and let this all go!

‘…Forgiveness, we all need, we all need, we all need forgiveness
Forgiveness, we all need, we all need…’

We all need it and we all need to give it. Sometimes what we need to do is hard. But there are three ways to fix the problem and find forgiveness.

1. Ask God- we need to seek God and ask Him to soften our hearts. We hold onto things that keep us from God and our true potential. God needs to soften your heart, so ask.

‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭36:26
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

2. Read the Word- God gave us the bible so that we may learn and grow. Reading His very word increases our wisdom and our understanding of God. In the bible Jesus teaches us about what forgiveness should look like.

Colossians‬ ‭3:13
“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”

3. Talk to the Person- It may sound scary and hard but sometimes we just need to say it. We need to explain what we are feeling and ask for forgiveness as you forgive them. Talking is the best way to solve the problem, especially in your marriage. Communication is the key to forgiveness and understanding.

Say It Now- The Afters

‭‭Luke‬ ‭17:3-4
“So watch yourselves. “If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.””

When we forgive, we allow God to work in our lives and change us. Don’t hold onto those things because they are holding you back! It is time say what we need to and we let it go.

God Bless
