Facing Our Giants
Hey guys and welcome back to another devotion. If you are new to the site, welcome we are so glad that you have joined us. Today’s devotion is about the strength God gives us in our weakness. So, let’s jump in shall we!
Philippians 4:13 NIV
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
This is a very well known verse in the bible, but what does it mean? This is the question I would like us to explore today. What does it mean that we can do ALL things?
Recently I saw the movie, “Facing The Giants” again and it is still just as amazing as it was ten years ago. If you haven’t seen it I would highly recommend it to you. When I was watching this movie it reminded me that God is the God of the impossible. I know it sounds silly but we can forget this so easily. Our God is so great and so marvellous that we underestimate Him so that we can try to understand.
Let’s take a dive back into the Old Testament, it is Throwback Thursday after all. Abraham and Sarah are a great example.
Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing.
Abraham and Sarah were very old and doubted that God could work this miracle. Sarah was almost one hundred and she believed that it was impossible for her to give birth to a child. But God does the miraculous and Sarah gave birth to Issac.
“Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”
Nothing is too hard for our God!
Next we will move onto Moses. This is a much longer story and I am sure you all know it very well. The plagues strike Egypt and the people of God follow Moses to freedom. But soon Pharaoh and his army take chase and catch up to the people. This is where God does one of the most amazing miracles. But it also has one of my favourite lines in the bible.
Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.
Our God is incredible. He is all powerful and His name should be praised.
And that’s not where it ends! We have all the prophets that did incredible things in the name of God, we have Daniel and the boys who faced Lions and Fire. God was with those who believed, who were weak. We have Job we pursued God through the worst challenges and God provided. We have David who fought Goliath with the Lord on his side. And he was victorious! And there are plenty more.
When God is for us, who can be against us?
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
We are called to step out on the waves. We are call to bring healing in Jesus name. We are the children of God and the same power that rose Jesus from the grave lives in us. We can do all things and we can face the giants.
God does endless miracles, but the greatest one of all is the miracle of life. Jesus Christ came down to earth and died for the sins of the world. He lived the life we never could and in return we were invited to join Him in eternity. We have a choice to believe in all these things. Our God is greater than all and through Him we can face all things. If you feel like you don’t know this God that I am talking about then I would recommend speaking to a pastor or someone at your local church.
Our God- Chris Tomlin
I really hope this blessed you.
