“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”
It can be hard to be nice to people, especially those who are not nice to you. But this is not a choice or a luxury. We, as followers of Christ, must stand up and do good to all people. We must love on the and be generous in all we do. God has called us to this and we have this obligation to do His will. We need to seek God and ask Him for His love, compassion and grace. It is hard to love everyone, so we need as much help as we can get.
Jesus died for every single person on planet earth. He loves each and everyone of us. Should we now not love others? Of course not. We want to live like Jesus and love like Him. We are Christians, it is in the name. We aspire to be Christ like, and of course we fall short. But we need to keep reaching out to God’s loved ones and bring them to salvation.
This is where the last part of that verse comes in. “…especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Why should this be so important. Well I have seen too many good hearts walk away from God. When all our focus is on our enemies and the lost, we forget to love and do good for the ones closest to us. We have been adopted into the family of God, but we can forget to look out for our family.
God calls us to love everyone. When people walk away from Christ it is only Him who can bring them back. They will feel betrayed and unloved. They feel like they have tried Christianity but it is just another cheap group that wants to rip you off. God loves everyone, and just because they are a part of the family, doesn’t mean they don’t need love! Let’s hold our family close doing good together!
So who in your life needs some love? Who needs some good action? Let’s stand up and start loving, just like Jesus would do!
