In God We Trust

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Hey Friends! It’s great to be back for another devotion at the start of another week! Today I have some Hillsong for you, with ‘In God We Trust’. We sang this song in church yesterday and I really took the time to think about the words. The lyrics encourage us to trust in God because he is a trustworthy God! He cannot be shaken. When we trust in God with all our heart, He will make our paths straight. Let’s get into it!

“Overwhelmed but I won’t break, through the battle I will say, your grace will be enough, your grace will be enough…”

“Under fire but we won’t fall, we will never be alone, you’ll always be enough, you’ll always be enough…”

In life, we are going to face things that will test us, things that will take us out of our comfort zone. No one ever said life is easy and as a Christian, we will constantly face situations that will stretch our faith. It’s when we find ourselves in these hard places that we need to trust Jesus. Not just a little bit, but wholeheartedly! We might be overwhelmed, under fire but we will not be defeated when we put our trust and hope in Jesus. When we hand the situation over to Jesus and trust Him, we declare that we aren’t strong enough to get through it on our own. But He is strong enough! God will never abandon us, He will be right by our side- whether we go through good or bad times. In these hard times, we can be reminded of God’s grace for us, that it will be enough. God has saved us by His grace and we can live in the hope of eternal life to come. We can trust in the grace of God in these difficult times because we know we have already been saved through what Jesus has done. Whatever comes, we must always put our trust in the Lord because He has our lives in His hands and He will direct our paths when give Him control.

Never think that you can get through things by trusting in your own abilities, may we acknowledge God is so much stronger and that He will hold us. God’s grace will sustain us in our times of need.

Isaiah 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

Psalm 56:3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.

2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.

“Now in God we trust, in His Name we hope, I know God will not be shaken, God is here with us, He’s already won, I know God will not be shaken…”

We can put all our hope and trust in God because He is unshakable. Nothing we face is ever too hard for God to deal with. Our lives are in His control and sometimes He allows things to happen that will cause our faith to be tested. But ultimately, these things cause us to dig deeper into God because we realise we can’t do it alone. Trouble in our lives can cause us to become unsure about what is happening and that is when we need God to be our anchor to hold us in the storm. God is with us through it all. How comforting is it to know that His spirit lives in us, shaping us and guiding us daily to become more like Jesus. We never have to do life alone because Jesus is right beside us. We must never feel like the struggles we face in this life own or define us. They will test us and push us, but we must always remember we are Children of the one true King. Jesus has already won the victory over our sin! He was willing to give His life, so may we trust Him with ours.

Psalm 33:20-21 We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.

Psalm 16:8 I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

“We will follow where You go, we will trust through the unknown, I know You go before, I know You go before…”

Jeremiah 29:11 is one of my favourite verses in the bible and it reminds us that God has amazing plans for our lives! We don’t need to have everything planned out perfectly, because He will guide us in the way He wants us to go. May we trust God and be obedient to follow His calling.  Even if God leads us to do something way out of our comfort zone, we need to let God lead us according to His will because He knows what is best for us. It’s when we try to live our lives ourselves that things don’t quite go the way they should. God knows what is ahead of us and He does go before. He knows every single hill and valley that awaits us. When we let God lead us, He will shape us into the person He wants us to be, helping us to live our lives in accordance with His will. So may we trust in God with all our heart, with the assurance that God has our lives in His hands and that He has plans for us that we could never even imagine. May we trust and submit to God fully.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Deuteronomy 31:8  The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Heavenly Father, I pray we will trust you with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding as we face hardships in this life. We will face things we cannot do in our own strength and I thank you that you cannot not be shaken. We can put our hope in you and be confident that you will work all things for our good, according to your will. May we be reminded of your grace that has saved us, in the midst of our difficulties. Our lives are in your hands, so may we trust in you and you alone Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God Bless,

Josh Clarke
