1 Thessalonians 5:18 Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Hey everyone! I hope you’re all going well and ready for another devotion!
We have so many things to be thankful for in this life and for all the blessings God has given us. Every day, we should take the time to give thanks and praise to God for all He has given us and all He has done.
Jesus came to earth to pay the price for our sin. He has bought our freedom and given us new life. Once we were dead in sin, but because of Jesus we are made alive and are given life to the full! That is something to thank God for!
1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
So many things in everyday life are worthy of our thanks. Whether it’s the beach, friends, family, pets, work or school we take these things for granted so often, but all of these things we have are from God!
Ephesians 5:20 Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
One thing we often don’t think about is thanking God for the faith of others it was something we discussed at bible study last night. We can be spurred on and encouraged by the faith of our friends and family. It is so much harder to persevere in our faith if we are doing it on our own, but if we share the Christian walk with others, it can mean that we can continually remind one another of the reason for the hope that we have. However, even with people by our side to encourage and support us, we will still face difficulty.
Ephesians 1:15-16 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.
When you think about the life God has given you, you will find so many things to give thanks to God for. Even if its giving thanks for the breath in your lungs and the fact you are alive, that’s something to give thanks for! Every good thing we have comes from the Lord!
“If you got a lot or a lotta nothing, go ahead and thank God for something, you’re gonna see the good if you’re good at looking, so go ahead and thank God for something…”
These lyrics from ‘Thank God for something’ by Hawk Nelson talk about thanking God in all circumstances, just like it says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18. This is one of my favourite verses as it talks about the fact that material possessions aren’t everything. Whether we have much, or if we have little, we can still be thankful! Being thankful isn’t dependant on how much “stuff” we have because in the end, all our material possessions will fade away. The life, freedom and hope we have from God possesses so much more worth than worldly possessions. Being rich or poor in the eyes of the world makes no difference to how thankful we are, because there is always something in our lives to give thanks for. It doesn’t matter how big or small it is!
We got a puppy the other day! I am so thankful for her (she is very cute)! But I consider her a blessing from God. It’s things like our new puppy that cause us to be thankful. We should give thanks to God for these wonderful blessings, but even the small things in everyday life like waking up to a new day! Because no matter what these things are, all are a gift from God.
May we all have an attitude of gratitude in all situations be thankful always, even when the road might get a bit bumpy. We know that we can always give God thanks and praise for the victory Jesus has had over our sin, that makes us holy and blameless in God’s eyes!
Heavenly Father, I thank you for this day and for the countless blessings you have given us. I pray you will help us to be thankful in all circumstances. May we see the good in every situation and remember that every good thing comes from you. Even when things get hard, I pray you will open our eyes to even the smallest blessings in our lives and ultimately, your victory over our sin. We give you praise and thanks Lord. In Jesus name, Amen.
We have been blessed more than we know!
