O Holy Night
Hey everyone. Welcome to another Faith Filled Friends devotion. Today, we will take a look at one of my favourite Christmas carols. “O Holy Night” is such a beautiful song that is pure worship to the Lord.
The artist is once again MercyMe. I really love their Christmas album and it truly feels like Christmas to me. So, MercyMe with “O Holy Night”. This is going to be great. So, let’s jump in then!
MercyMe- O Holy Night
‘O holy night, the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Saviour’s birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till He appeared and the soul felt His worth
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices
For yonder beams a new and glorious morn…
…Fall on your knees, oh hear the angel voices
O night divine, O night when Christ was born
O night divine, O night, O night divine…’
I have really felt that people in this day and age are forgetting the true meaning of Christmas. They are forgetting that it is the night of our saviour’s birth. Jesus came to earth to be a man and face what we faced. He came holding life and freedom for all of us. What a beautiful night, what an event to celebrate!
‘…Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease…’
Jesus came as a man and as a saviour. His great love should be an example to all of us. Christmas is about giving, as God gave His only son as a sacrifice to save the world. Christmas is about fellowship, as people from all across the land of different classes came and worshipped together. Christmas is about love, Jesus came knowing that He would have to die so that we could have life.
John 3:16- For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:17- For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
This year, lets not get caught up in gifts and food forgetting why we come together and celebrate. We remember the birth of beloved saviour. God wants to be near this Christmas, so let’s wait on Him and make some space for His love.
Isaiah 40:31- But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
