Steal My Show
Hey guys, we are back with another devotion today! So I have had this devotion on my heart for a few weeks now but I just haven’t gotten around to writing it yet. But I feel that God is calling me to do it now! I know it’s a Throwback Thursday but you will have to just stick with me. It isn’t a new song so it counts okay?
This is a juicy subject and I know there are people (Jeff) who have ask for some devotions that delve into these topics. So here we are, finally. I will keep it short but that still means long. So, TobyMac, you can kick us off with “Steal My Show” the 2012 smash hit!

Psalm 69:30- I will praise the name of God with song and magnify Him with thanksgiving.
When it comes to doing the good work of God we can often get caught up in the desires of the flesh and we desire praise and glory for the good deeds. This is so wrong and we will receive no praise from God as we already received all the rewards on Earth. We need to magnify God giving Him glory and honour in everything we do. Trust me, I don’t do this all the time, but I want to change and I am really seeking Gods help. When we acknowledge our weakness and the power of God, we will then receive the help we so desperately need. This is very humbling and it will not come easily but it will help build faith. Faith is a gift from God and we should never take it for granted.
‘…We got a packed house, the crowd is callin’ out
They want the beat to drop, but what we really need is You…’
We can run after the fun times and the laughter but in the end we really need Jesus. I listen to such a range of Christian music, mainly for the fun of it. I love my music and I personally own a massive collection of music, but what do I gain from this? I would gain nothing. I would still be empty. I would want more and I would never be satisfied. What is it that we seek? The music will bring us happiness but we need to receive teaching from God. Listen to some worship because we need to become a people that know how the worship God.
‘…If You wanna steal my show, I’ll sit back and watch You go
If You got somethin’ to say, go on and take it away
Need You to steal my show, can’t wait to watch You go
So take it away…’
This is not about us, but about God! We need to stop taking credit for good things and start giving God the glory. This about about giving God control. If you haven’t yet heard Tenth Avenue North’s song, “Control” then check it out after this. We need to recognise the power and love of God in us. Christ lives in us.
There are many people who care more about showing off how much they know about scripture rather than out of love trying to save someone. They try to show their own wisdom and intelligence rather than doing it out of love! This is wrong on so many levels, and I know it sounds hypocritical as I write devotions for the world to see. I struggled with this and I still do. I feel as if I am showing off my own knowledge and it feels like I want to prove how much I know. But I have prayed so much about this and God has told me to stop listening to the lies of the devil. I do this because even if it helps one person in their walk with Christ then my job has been a success. God has called the four of us into The Faith Filled Friends to make a difference and to spread the good news. I know these devotions have challenged me and have caused me to grow.
See, already it appears to be all about me, but it’s not! My life is God’s and this is my testimony. Jesus has a calling on your life to. It may be completely different, but that is because everyone doing the same thing would not save people. My words will not reach some people, millions of people! But God has put a calling on each one of our lives. Those dreams and passions in you are for a reason, because God puts that inside of you! Animals don’t have a spirit like we do, because we are made in the image of God. Don’t be discouraged in doing good because God our father is always watching.
James 4:16-17 But now you boast and brag, and all such boasting is evil. It is a sin when someone knows the right thing to do and doesn’t do it.
Matthew 6:1 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.“
And I would like to leave you with the awesome monologue from for King & Country’s single, “Proof of Your Love”. This is pulled straight from the scriptures and it is simply beautiful. Don’t do your great deeds if you don’t do them out of love. God has called us to be His ambassadors of love to a lost and broken world. If we don’t have love, then we don’t truly know Jesus. This monologue is from 1 Corinthians 13:1-7.
‘…If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.
If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all of His mysteries and making everything plain as day,
And if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.
If I give all I own to the poor or even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve got nowhere.
So, no matter what I say, no matter what I believe, no matter what I do, I’m bankrupt without love…’ [1 Corinthians 13 – 1-7, The Message]
God bless you today. Remember that the devil will tell you that your acts are for self gain but if you do them with love, not seeking a reward then you are carrying on Jesus’ good work. God bless guys!
